A Storm Is Coming — Are You Prepared?
We will all experience storms at many times in our lives. Whether it is a storm created by weather or a storm created by life’s circumstances, your survival depends on how prepared you are.
If it is a hurricane, you will have advance notice and can go to the store and stock up on food, water, extra batteries, and fill your car’s tank with gas. You may experience some damage to your home — or not — depending on your location, but chances are good that you will survive in relative safety and comfort because you are prepared.
Life’s storms are different. It may be the loss of your job, sickness, a failing marriage, or something else that cannot be fixed by a shopping trip. It usually hits with no warning, so how do you prepare?
The only way to prepare for these kinds of storms is through the love, presence, and power of Jesus Christ. It may still be difficult to endure, but at least you will have the peace of knowing that you will come through it because God has promised to be with you always.
Deuteronomy 31:8 (ESV)
“It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; He will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”
That is a very strong promise, and God will keep it — but only if you are a believer and follower of Jesus Christ.
Romans 8:28 (NIV)
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
Jesus can calm any storm — whether weather or life.
Matthew 8:23–27 (ESV)
“…And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but He was asleep. And they went and woke Him, saying, ‘Save us, Lord; we are perishing.’ And He said to them, ‘Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?’ Then He rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. And the men marveled, saying, ‘What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey Him?’”
They had nothing to fear because Jesus was with them, just as He has promised to be with you and protect you if you put your faith and trust in Him.
If you have not accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, these promises do not apply to you. You are on your own, left to your own resources.
If you have not accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, I urge you to do so right now. A second from now may be too late.
